What did the published reference run find?

In the published Brave and Windows run, WebP reduced the median file size versus the same-scene PNG baseline, but encoded more slowly than JPEG on that device. The report separates opaque and transparent comparisons.

Corpus

Twenty-five deterministic scenes were generated in each category: photo-like detail, interface/text, transparent graphics and flat illustrations.

Timing

Each output used one discarded warm-up and three measured encodes. The published time is the median of those measurements.

Quality comparison

The matched run sampled five quality levels over 24 scenes. Transparent JPEG comparisons were excluded from the opaque headline because JPEG flattened alpha.
